QR codes and short links
A short link is a tiny address on ctix.be — for example ctix.be/k7m2xq4 — that sends visitors straight to your event page. Cleartix turns it into a QR code you can print on posters, flyers, tickets or slides. Because the QR code only contains the short address, you can still change where it points (its UTM tags) after it has been printed.
1. Create a short link
Open the event, go to the Manage tab and choose QR & short links. Click New short link and fill in:
- Label — a name only you see, such as Poster bakery window or Facebook ad October. Make one link per place you promote the event, so you can compare them later.
- Short code (optional) — the part after
ctix.be/. Leave it empty and Cleartix generates a random 7-character code. Prefer something readable? Type your own, 3–40 characters: lowercase letters, digits and hyphens, for examplesummer-party. Codes are shared by all Cleartix organisers, so a popular word may already be taken. The code cannot be changed afterwards. - UTM tags (optional) — see below.
The Visitors land on line shows the exact address the short link will open.
2. Add UTM tags (optional)
UTM tags are small labels added to the event address, so you can tell where a buyer came from. Each short link can carry its own set:
| Tag | What it describes | Example |
|---|---|---|
utm_source | Where the link is shown | flyer, instagram, newsletter |
utm_medium | The kind of channel | print, social, email |
utm_campaign | The campaign or promotion | summer-2026 |
utm_content | A variant, to compare designs or placements | a5-blue, story-1 |
utm_term | A keyword, mostly for paid search | yoga brussels |
When someone follows the link, Cleartix adds these tags to the event page address and stores them on every order that follows. You see them on the order detail page and summed per channel under Analytics → Sales by channel (see Analytics & exports). No cookie is placed on the visitor's device, so no consent banner is needed.
You can edit the tags of an existing short link at any time; printed QR codes keep working and start reporting under the new tags.
3. Download and print the QR code
Each short link card shows its QR code. Use Download PNG for documents, slides and social posts (a sharp 1024 px image) or Download SVG for print work — an SVG scales to any size without blurring. Keep a white margin around the code and print it at least 2 cm wide for posters read from a distance.
Prefer to share the address itself? Copy puts the short link on your clipboard — handy for WhatsApp, a bio link or a printed text line next to the QR code.
4. Follow the results
Every short link card shows its total clicks, the orders it brought in and their revenue. Click Statistics on a card for the full picture:
- Clicks, orders, tickets, revenue and conversion — orders are attributed to the short link the buyer followed, so you see real sales per poster or ad, not just attention. Conversion is orders per click over the period shown.
- Clicks per day for the last 30 days, so you can see the effect of a flyer drop or a post.
- Devices (phone, tablet, computer) and where people came from — a Direct / QR scan entry means the link was scanned or typed; a website name means it was clicked there (e.g.
facebook.com). - Openings by crawlers and messenger link previews are counted separately and left out of the conversion rate.
Nothing personal is stored about the people who open the link: only the moment, the type of device and the referring site's name.
Good to know
- Short links work right away, also for an unpublished event — but visitors only see the event page once you publish the event.
- Deleting a short link makes its QR code stop working: scanners see a page not found message. Delete a link only when the printed material is out of circulation.
- The short link always opens your event's current public address (your own domain when you have one, otherwise your Cleartix subdomain).
- Want to credit a specific partner or influencer and see their revenue in one place? Use a promo link in addition to, or instead of, UTM tags.
